Amethyst medicine bottle found in central California.

It is a small cork top bottle with a seam that runs up the sides but stops at the neck. It has a 4 with three slashes/hatch marks (?) and a 2 at the top of one face. The neck also has a sort of vertical pinch on the side opposite the two.

I would love any information on it!

Thank you.

  • Early 20th century generic pharmacy bottle. A local pharmacist bought cases of these and applied his own label to the prescription.

Likely pre-WW1 - The purple tint suggests the presence of manganese in the glass - you will find a bunch of discussion of manganese in this forum.

There may have been manufacturer marks on the base but looks like the detail was lost in manufacture..

  • Thank you so much!

I was thinking thirties or so with those modern looking numbers so that age is really cool to hear!

Now I’m going to read up on manganese in glass because you’ve caught my interest.
