Odd clear round ball-like bottle

Hi I came across this round bottom bottle but can't find it anywhere on the internet so far. I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what it was used for. I'm pretty sure it was set into something but I do not know what. Thanks ahead of time for any info I may get.
