NOSMAS Battery Jar

A few years ago I inherited a glass jar from my Great Grandparents. I was looking for information and this website came up and mentioned that a freind Peter had a jar with NOSMAS E.C.L. Co Boston BATTERY on it. It was mentioned that this was for SAMSON, and was a misprint. On your page you requested to let you know if you have seen one. Well yes I have, I am looking at it right now. Is this Rare? What time was this made at? Just wanted to share really, not looking to sell or appraisal, it has sentimental value.

I wouldn't say rare necessarily, but batter jars are quite collectible. Yours is of later 19th century manufacture.

I have recently acquired a NOSMAS jar with its original lid/element. The lid also says NOSMAS.

Having a battery jar with matching "guts" is a big bonus - they are much scarcer for sure.

Interesting that the lid has the same NOSMAS marking. Hard to believe it is a typo if both have this

Here is a link to a brief discussion about this battery, Apparently it was an actual brand from the same manufacturers that made the Samson battery.

Thanks for posting that link. I had been thinking that the matching lid and jar was more than a coincidence. I like the "Honeybee" theory, it is entirely plausible.
