The Mysterious Blue Ladies

edited September 2012 in Question and Answer
I've had these bottles for about 15 years now. I love them because they are so unique! I've always wondered what they are and what they were used for. Does anyone have any idea?

  • These are modern bottles which have been produced for their decorative value. Hard to tell from photos if they are hand blown. Do you see mold seams? How far does seam go up to the lip/mouth? Any markings on bases?
  • Yes, there is a seam. It runs up the back of the bottle base from the bottom to the stem. The topper also has a seam around the outer edge. There are no markings on the bottom of the base.
  • I happened upon an identical pair in a antiques/consignment shop last week. They are definitely not typical of a modern bottle in their mold marks but the manner of fabrication seems intentional to provide something of a hand blown look. I stand by my original comment that these are quite modern and were made simply to be decorative.
