Anachronistic bottle from 1970s in cache from 1930s?
I dug up this bottle in my back yard, jumbled in with five bottles I've confidently dated all to 1937. From my research (mostly here), the logo on the bottom looks like Latchford Glass Company,
General description:
- Fluted sides, vertical seam along length indicates machine-made
- Stamped on the base: 9 (L) 74
- Stamped on the heel: (L) 6
Based on my reading, whether the L is inside a circle or an oval changes the time period the bottle could be dated to. On the base, the L is definitely inside an oval. On the heel, it looks much more like a circle. The L inside an oval logo was used from 1925-1939, or 1957 on if you trust Toulouse (it seems like a lot of people on the internet don't). Given the absence of distiller or rectifier markings I'm assuming this is not a liquor bottle.
So, now the question is:
- Is this from 1974, factory location #9?
- Does the 9 mean this from 1939? If so, what's the 74, a catalog number?
I'm assuming the 6 on the side is the mold number, but it could mean 1936, in which case now we don't know what 9 and 74 mean.
