what the heck is this?

Wondering if anyone can tell me what this is,what it was used for, possibly an approximate year, and what it is worth? the glass feels like it is really thin. It appears to be mouth blown due to the nub on top looks like where the rod was broken off.
other than that there are absolutely no marking on it. I found it in the bottle pit I have been digging around in. it was kind of odd that I found this unbroken since it was on the bottom and buried three inches under everything else. Please Help! the only thing I guess I know for sure is that its glass and egg shaped.lol

    Yes, it is a glass egg.

    I had never heard of using them to kill snakes until I read this forum thread.

    I just assumed folks who raised chickens used them to encourage their hens to lay in particular places...ie nesting boxes.
