GLASS BOTTLE

edited October 2011 in Question and Answer
I have a glass bottle on the top just below the neck it says FEDERAL LAW FORBIDS SALE OR RE-USE OF THIS BOTTLE.
Just below near the bottem of bottle it says LEMON HART & SON. LONDON ENGLAND.
On the very bottom of the bottle is rounded inward and says L.H.&.S with a 2 just below it. It also has seams up both sides from bottom to the top. It looks to be like a cork was the stopper. there are no theards for a cap. I would like to know when you think it was made?
My brother found this off the coast of S.E. Alaska it came up on his long line gear while commercial fishing. And it also has barnicals on it. So has been on the bottom of the ocean for awile. Thank you for your time. Rolly

  • The "Federal Law Fobids..." embossing dates it for certain to the mid 20th century. You can read more about the US law which required this embossing on my Federal Law Forbids bottle page.

The bottle may have been made in England, but was for a US market.

We know it held spirits of some kind (whiskey, gin, etc)
