Old brown bottle with liquid inside...looking to find out what it is.

My mother found this bottle over 25 years ago when we were digging up the ground for our septic tank.

It still has the liquid in it from when we found it, we did not open it.

On the bottom, it has S & O and the number 6 beneath it.

Can you tell me what the S & O stand for, maybe what's in it, and whats it worth??

Thanks,
Lisa

  • It is a medicine or pharmacy bottle of some sort. You will find plenty of listings online for label-under-glass (LUG) pharmacy bottles. The large examples were used by pharmacists to store their component ingredients for medicines. Pharmacists also bought bulk bottles to fill for customer prescriptions. I am guessing this is a pharmacist's bottle but who knows what is inside - could be about anything.

Often ground stoppers get stuck in the bottle and can be really difficult (if not impossible) to dislodge.

I do not find a listing for "S&O" in the Toulouse book, Bottle Makers and Their Marks, which is the authoritative reference on the subject.
