Gen Taylor/Gen Washington Glass Flask

edited September 2012 in Question and Answer
I bought a flask at an estate sale and am trying to determine if it is an original or reproduction. Color is aqua green, has lots of bubbles in the glass. Side seams are prominent in body of bottle but fade to nothing at neck. One side has bust of Gen. George Washington with "The Father of His Country" and the other side has bust of Gen Zachary Taylor with "General Taylor Never Surrenders". Above this is has "Dyottville Glass Works Philada".
Thanks for your imput.

  • This is a good quality reproduction... possibly by Clevenger

See my web page on Washington - Taylor flasks - a key attribute which gives away its age / origin is the join of the neck to the body. In period flasks, the transition is a smooth curve. In reproductions, the neck looks like it is just inserted into the body.
  • Thanks for your evaluation! I can clearly see what you are saying about the neck.
