Large 20 inch chestnut or demijohn flask?

Looking for identification and info on this bottle that was passed down to us.. The size made me think demijohn but the bottom caves upward, makes me think chestnut? It measures 20 inches tall and about 14 in wide.

Thanks!

  • Thanks for posting - lovely bottle, great form.

Collectors would definitely call this a demijohn. One sees them both with and without pontil marks on the base - your has one, much like one would always see on smaller chestnut bottles.

Handle it carefully and display in a safe place - even a small ping (crack) to the glass will really hurt its value.

  • Thank you for your response! Any idea on value?
