brown bottle #219


Hi Founf this Brown bottle, with 219 on the bottom a piece of cork still inside.

what was it used for? does it have any value?

    Hello and thanks for posting such good photos.


    This form is known as a "strap sided flask" owing to the flat bars that run down each side edge. Your bottle has a tooled top and dates to the later 19th century. Definitely a bit of value if it is as perfect as it appears in the pictures. It was a spirits bottle - most likely whiskey since in an earlier time there was not the array of liquors we have today. Most drank whiskey.
