Identify 2 Similar Bottles With No Markings

I bought these 2 bottles that are very similar and have a label from the previous owner purchased them as bitter bottles. I don't see any markings to determine age or even if they are true bitter bottles. Please help me identify year and purpose. Thank you, Kristi

  • Bitters started out in the early mid-19th Century as a means to avoid liquor taxes . . . no tax on medical preparations. That dodge ended close to the TOC and the nature of bitters changed. Bitters became a flavoring for mixed drinks. The shaker tops may indicate that only small amounts of the contents of the bottles were to be dispensed. That would be consistent with flavoring bitters, but it is not dispositive.
