Need help identifying what this bottle was used for and when?

11" tall with stopper
8.75" w/o
Base is 4.75" at widest and 4.25 across center
It appears to have what I would call a 3 way pouring spout
Writing on base: Federal Law FORBIDS Sale or reuse of this bottle.
D-1 58 55 there is also a 4 and very lightly an oval which looks like an I in it but I could not even get a pencil rub.

TYIA!!

  • I have traced the D-1 embossing to both National Distillers Product Corp in Ohio and also to the Old Taylor Whiskey brand. It is likely there are other brands associated with D-1.

  • Chris thank you. Do you have a list by chance of old distillers?
  • I do not but this website is a great resource
    http://www.pre-pro.com/databases.htm

Its focus is before Prohibition but many 20th brands back then..
