Berring's Apple Bitters bottle in purple

I have a bottle that does not have Weaton on the bottom. It has something, but it's not Weaton. Is it a fake?

Comments

  • To say that this bottle is a reproduction or a fake would be misleading. The original 19th century bottle on which it is based is marked "Perrine's Apple Ginger Phila" The original also has roped corners and is a similar cabin shape.

I think imitation is probably a better word.

It is a late 20th century bottle - I had assumed Wheaton created the mold. Perhaps they sold the mold and someone else produced the bottle at a later date.
  • I have this same bottle but it does have Wheaton on the bottom, how do I know if it is an imitation?

    Thanks
  • @cookwk71 - See my original comment in this thread. Wheaton embossing or not, the bottle is modern (late 20th century) which is to say there was no "original" (ie. 19th century) bottle marked Berring's Apple Bitters.

The "original" bottle on which this one is based is marked "Perrine's Apple Ginger Phila"
