Purple bottle with tin wrapping and handblown stopper

edited February 2013 in Question and Answer
Hi there, I am looking for anyone's thoughts on the origins of this bottle. It is a very subtle purple, and has no seams and no manufacturer's markings. In addition, it is wrapped with metal which is a bit rusty and it appears that the glass was blown into the metal parts during its making. The edge of the lip is a bit uneven as well. Would appreciate anyone's expertise.

  • Hi and welcome to the forum.

I have seen these over the years - am fairly sure I have seen other bottle forms as well and I believe other colors. The common element is the metal wrapping the glass and with diamond openings where the glass bulges outward.

This is a modern decorative bottle - it may be of Mexican origin but also possibly European.

What first caught my eye was the base of the bottle - someone has used an engraver to mark up the base. Perhaps this was done to make it appear that there is a pontil mark on the base, who knows! The markings are not original to the manufacture of the bottle.
