Newbie found some items - can you help ID?

edited December 2012 in Question and Answer
Item 1: appears to Drinking glass 3 & 3/4 in. tall & 2 & 15/16 in. diameter. The symbol on the bottom is the letter "A" under an archway (look like football goal post bent inward toward the top) with "S 6" under the symbol (embossed to be read from inside the glass). Approx 1/2 in. down from the rim there is a design in the glass that looks & feels like the reeding on the rim of a coin about 1/8 in with that circles the glass. It was found with other bottles that have the same "logo" on the bottom. There is no seam.
Can anyone please help ID?

Item 2: is a milky white glass Salve/cream jar 2 in. x 2&3/4 in. the jar is square with round corners. It has groves (i assume for gripping) on 2 sides while the other 2 are smooth. The are no markings at all on the glass & no seam. There are visible imperfection in the glass surface. The cover, however, has a"crest" on it which includes 2 upright lions or horses facing each other with a shield in the center of animals with a waving banner under them. The cover is NON- magnetic (aluminum possibly, as it did not rust away as other did in the same find) & has some corrosion. The crest may not be too clear on the photo.
Can anyone please help ID?

Thank you

  • The manufacturer mark is Hazel Atlas, formerly in West Virginia. May have been a jelly jar

The milk glass jar was for some type of cosmetic or cold cream.
  • First, thank you for your knowledge, I will do some searches from there.

The milky glass jar was found in the same area with a Musterole - Cleveland Jar, but that jar was marked on the bottom & the lid. if that can be a possible direction of help. Also, the crest on the lid is visible (not clearly because of age) from the underside as well.

    Thanks again

One good place to research for 20th century items such as the cold cream jar would be ebay. If you search around for advertisements, you may hit upon a pictorial ad which may show the product and/or the crest.

    Brands - Jergens, Woodbury, Ponds
