liquor bottle (sidewards) 4 then R-286
I found a 1/2 pint liquor bottle with "Federal Law forbids sale or re-use..." 4 R-286 stamped on the bottom and 85MG 9 on the base, in the woods of Northern Arizona. Is anyone familiar with the "R" stamp? Any guesses on how old or what the bottle held?

R-286 is the Rectifier number. Bottlers of spirits after Prohibition had to mark their bottles with a Distiller or Rectifier number. Your bottle is mid 20th century.
Unfortunately I have been unable to trace this # - the solution to the puzzle is finding a bottle with this # that also has a label.
