Age of stoneware bottle

I found this stoneware bottle today at a Texas river while out fossil hunting. I’m wondering what the age is and what it might’ve been used for. I’d like to think it used to have beer in it!. There appears to be a W stamped into the side near the bottom.

This is an English made stoneware ale or ginger beer bottle. Dates to the late 19th century.
