Old Guinness Bottle

edited April 2012 in Question and Answer
I recently purchased this Bottle from an Antique Store. It had a label on it that said "Very Old Guinness Bottle". Does anyone have an idea of what year the bottle is from; I cant find any marks or numbers on it.
The Bottom is Punted, i think thats what its called, pushed in like a cone.
The top lip is attached by hand it looks like.

  • I am by no means an expert on Guinness beer bottles of the 20th century - have seen a few however and the bottle itself is different. It's a shape which is often called a "hock wine" and by bottle alone, I would date it to late 19th or early 20th century. Earlier examples would have had a pontil or punty mark - the base here mimicks that earlier tendency to "kick up" the base.

The labels, logos and text changed over time - you are probably better served by going to a more specific source like The Guinness Collectors Club
