Clear 1942 (?) Owens-Illinois bottle - What was it used for?

Good morning. I recently found this bottle under an uprooted tree near a coal mine that closed in 1935. I'm new to bottle collecting, but I have done some research, and I believe this bottle was produced in 1942 based on the "Duraglas" script at the base of the bottle (sorry, I was not able to get a good image of that).

Is the "9" to the left of the trademark represent the factory it was produced in?
What does the "2" just below that represent?
What is the "1" followed by the two dashes?
What was the likely purpose of this bottle?

The bottle is clear, 4 1/2" in height, and 1 7/8" in diameter. "Duraglas" is printed in script at the base on both sides of the bottle.
I think you should be able to make it out in the rubbing, but to the left of the trademark is a "9", and just below that is a "2". To the right of the trademark is another "2". At the bottom of the rubbing is a "1" with two dashes to the right.

Thanks for your help.

  • Thanks for posting and great job on the rubbing of the base embossing.

It's a generic bottle. Somewhere in the Owens catalog I am sure this bottle exists....an entry may provide some clues.
