Identifying Large Blue Jar
I found this in the creek behind my house in Cincinnati, Ohio. It has no visible marking other than the number "4" on it's bottom and the two creases on the side letting me know it was hand-blown. Would love some information on this piece! It is also 7 inches in height, 3.5 inches wide of the base and roughly 3 inches on the top which is grooved. A porcelain mason lid I've found fits perfectly on top. This is my first time using this site and I hope to use it much more. Thanks!

Great find - perhaps you need to be looking around a bit more to see if there are other bottles.
This is a "wax sealer" canning jar from the third quarter of the 19th century. It was fitted with a tin lid and then wax was poured in the channel to make the seal.
Canning jar design was pretty much madness in this era with thousands of different designs patented and produced.
