My guess is that the cap is sterling silver - I seem to see touchmarks which would suggest such.
Quite possibly that monogram on the top are your grandfather's initials.
What is missing is the sterling or plate cover that slips over the bottom half....do you have this? Its absence really affects the value.
I have owned a number of these flasks and the value is all over the place depending on how fancy they are, engraving, cutting to glass, nature of the cover, etc. Will wait to hear from you about the slip-on cover before I comment specifically on value.
