Here is a little photo of one. This is a fairly common six-sided aqua bottle. As I remember, you will see these both machine made and earlier tooled-top varieties but the bottle is the same. There is embossing on the base.
Pepto Mangan (Gude) is described as a hematinic - specifically, a drug that increases the amount of hemoglobin in the blood. Apparently, the M J Breitenbach Company which produced this product spent a lot of money on advertising.
In the November 1905 California State Journal of Medicine (pages 339-340), you will find a commentary slamming the company for false conclusions in their published medical studies
"It may fairly be said that the medical press has been subsidized by the Breitenbach Company to an extent equaled by no other."
See also a commentary in the same issue on pp. 339-340. It seems there was little love in the medical community for products like this!
