NEED HELP IDENTIFYING VERY OLD BROKEN BOTTLE

I work on an island in the Long Island sound that has a very long history. It was a casino back in the 20s and many other things before then. I was metal detecting at low tide down as far as I could go one day and found some old screw that was really deep. I noticed this large piece of glass so I cleaned it off and saw it wasn't like any of the other antique glass I find usually. I was just wondering if anyone had a clue what this was used for and possibly how old it might be. It looks like a flat black think bottle when you just look at it but when you put it up to the light it appears to be dark green with what also looks like bubbles inside the glass. Iv found pretty amazing full bottles out on the island but nothing like this. Thanks guys!

  • It is somewhat difficult to be sure since the shard is so sea-worn, but my sense is that this is a later 19th century bottle.

    What is the diameter?

It seems there may be embossing on the base, although it is now rather faint. Do you agree?

Dark olive green glass is often called "black glass." I suspect your bottle was originally more translucent without the sea-washed surface
