antique purple glass

i use a purple antique glass for my olive oil..is it safe to use for consumption?

    Thanks for asking - in general the important question that you ask is whether there are potentially harmful components of the glass that might leach out and get into the contents.

    Purple glass specifically contains manganese - this is a chemical element which is quite common here in New Hampshire where I live and is frequently present in drinking water. As far as I know it is not considered hazardous.

    Of concern to some is the presence of lead in crystal. You will find discussion online that certain liquids sitting for a length of time in crystal can acquire concentrations of lead that exceed recommended exposure levels.
