Dear Shannon,
Thank you so much for your email enclosing the photographs.
It is always so wonderful to receive the historical images bearing testimony to Truefitt’s long journey over the past two centuries! It is incredible to think that our brand will be 220 years old in October 2025!It would be so interesting to find out where you came across this artifact? It is a wooden caddy, dating back to circa 1819 when Truefitt occupied premises, amongst other locations, at 20 & 21 Burlington Arcade.
The wooden caddies were used to protect the delicate glass bottles when the need arose for our customers of the past to travel with their various Truefitt preparations on their coach journeys, undertaken on uneven roads, needless to say, journeys which were guaranteed to be rather bumpy! The glass bottles of two centuries ago, were by far more fragile, and as such, the wooden caddy was indispensable protection of the precious content.
It is a wonderful collector’s piece, and should you ever wish to part with it, we would be delighted to purchase it and to add the caddy to our collection of Truefitt’s artefacts.
With my very best wishes,
Joanna
