The bottle fits age-wise - it is a typical very early 20th century piece. I would say that indentation on the flat face held some kind of box, possibly containing pills.

Your bottle has a nice sun colored amethyst tint to the glass, owing to the presence of manganese. You can find more info by searching this forum for the word "manganese"
