Clear, ridged glass piece; found in creek in Clifton, VA (a town dating back to the 1700's)

Hello,

I am new to the forum; thank you for allowing me access. I found this piece of glass in a tributary to Pope's Head Creek in Clifton, Va. At first I thought it was a piece of a telegraph insulator because they have been found in the area but a search on line did not reveal any insulators with a ridged exterior. I also did an image search but came up with clam shells... there are no markings, the inside is hollow like an insulator but textured not smooth.

Any help is appreciated.

Just a thought...I have seen finials for curtain rods in glass. Also wondering if this could have been a glass fitting for a boat light. Seems like I recall that prior to the ubiquitous days of plastic, they were glass.

Thanks for the comment. I do not think it is from a boat. The creek is not navigable and no boating within 20 miles or more. But the curtain rod finials is an interesting thought. Thanks for commenting!
