ryanc88 Hi All My nan recently passed away and I have been left with 2 decanters. They are lovely to look at and she always told me they were really old. I just wondered if anyone could shed some light on them; date? value? or anything? I think they are glass as they don't ring when you flick them, but I am far from an expert. I have added two photos if you need more please do let me know. The bottom has a star like shape engraved.
Chris Are these a matching pair? Before one can tell anything about these it is important to clarify: Are these cut or pressed? Perhaps a photo of the base will help. I get the sense they are cut but am not entirely sure from the two photos. Are they crystal? I get the sense that these could be 50 year old decanters - just an educated guess.
Chris You may find this closed ebay auction to be helpful: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Edinburgh-Crystal-Whisky-Decanter-Square-Hobnail-Cut-Signed-E-L-1920s-/371398411332?hash=item5679120444&nma=true&si=Iv9MITulJ60f9TcTLCWsGMSmQyo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Note this decanter has a similar pattern and (importantly) is marked on the base
ryanc88 thanks for the reply Chris, that eBay listening looks identical but mine doesn't have the marking, would you assume they the same? When I'm home from work I will add more photos! Is it safe to store whiskey in? I read some crystal has lead in it which could be dangerous
ryanc88 Here are a few extra photos, I have also made a little video that may help someone identify if it is glass of lead crystal? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3qwhw6HOA0
