Small clear bitters bottle

Wanting to know about the history of this clear COL SAMJOHNSON PROPRIETOR RICHMOND VA 1852 ALANCASTER INDIAN VEGETABLE JAUNDICE BITTERS bottle.

The J in Jaundice is embossed backwards. All letters are caps and raised


& the bottle is clear, 3 inches tall with a wooden cork. No stamp on the bottom of the bottle

    This is a modern bottle popularized by Wheaton Glass in the later 20th century - it was meant to look like older bitters bottles, perhaps inspired by the common "Atwoods Bitters" from the 19th century. I have seen a number of spelling variants so there were a number of molds made, possibly by other companies.


    Usually they are found in bright colors such as amethyst, blue or green. Yours is unusual in that it is clear glass.
