Age of Bottle

edited September 2016 in Question and Answer
When I was 10 in 1965, I found a clear half-pint liquor bottle with what appeared to be an eagle, as well as Made in USA
D460, 57-9, Half pint on the bottom of the bottle. It also says federal law forbids sale or re use of this bottle.

  • Hi and welcome.

I converted your PDF to a jpg to make it easier to view the image.

It is entirely possible that the "57" marking on the base indicates 1957. Mid 20th century is where I would place this bottle in general.

I have traced D460 ( Distiller #460 ) to the Calvert company. It may have been Old Drum whiskey, possibly another brand. One would need to dig back through advertisements of the era to look for bottles which have this stylized eagle on them. One could also dig through ebay auctions hoping to find an example of this bottle with a label.
  • That was easy...finding a labeled example on ebay, that is...
